Another excellent comedy and musical. Marika Rökk sparkles. “Her steps are divine by any standard - whether the classical, tap dancing, or (almost) vaudeville - in Gasparone.”
Poland, 1704: August the Strong, Elector of Saxony, rules the land. The brash Colonel Ollendorf rules as governor of Krakow, where martial law has been proclaimed, because the populace is always in revolt. Nevertheless, not everyone is upset about the Saxon ruler: for the upper classes, life is good. At a ball given by Countess Nowalska, Ollendorf gets to know her daughter Laura and falls for her. But when he attempts to kiss her, she slaps him. In the interim, two young Poles, Jan and Simon, were arrested during a secret meeting. Ollendorf forces them to help him get revenge on Laura.
