Coming Home to Happiness

Heimkehr ins Glück (Original Title)

Shoe manufacturer Gruber isn't exactly happy with his marriage. When he finally reaches his breaking point, he decides to take a mini vacation to his new hunting lodge in the Black Forest. His car gets lost and is picked up by penniless magician Amadori who drives around town, and everyone thinks he is the incognito Gruber! Even the two foresters in Gruber's own lodge think he's Gruber and accommodate his wishes. As for Gruber, he's made the acquaintance of a shoemaker's daughter, Liesl, whose country girl habits cause Gruber to fall for her. When Gruber's wife shows up at the castle with her current admirer in tow, Amadori's masquerade is threatened by reality.

Utterly charming, romantically fanciful, altogether delightful comedy/musical.
By JohnHowardReid, IMDB. JohnHowardReid review on IMDB says it all.

I would like to point out the two episodes: 64-65 minutes and 69-73 minutes. In the first episode we see mostly through gestures and face expressions how mutual affection reaches its peak, Karl’s grief from the realization that he can’t marry Liesl, Liesl’s (Luise Ullrich) expectation of a proposal and the complete collapse of Liesl’s hopes when she realizes that Karl is married. In the second episode, without a word said we can see what the characters of Luise Ullrich and Paul Horbiger feel and think. Dashed hopes, grief and sorrow. Masterclass in acting.
